Como te definirías? me defino como una artista instalativa que trabaja con tela.
Trabajo con tela desde hace muchos años y aprecio los patrones únicos e historias que vienen con cada pieza que encuentro y hago. Mucho del material es reciclado lo cual me permite usarlo y crear nuevas y excitantes esculturas.
De pequeño querías ser...? No tenía ni idea! Sin ambargo, el arte y las actividades creativas siempre fueron una parte muy importante de mi vida cuando era pequeña. En mi ciudad natal habían muchos artistas que vivían en nuestro barrio, por lo que era común que la gente fuera creativa. Mi familia me apoyó desde el principo en la idea de ser artista. Mis padres son personas muy creativas y su influencia ha hecho que sea la artista que soy hoy en día.
Un ídolo? Un ídolo siempre es una pregunta dura! Algunos de mis artistas favoritos son Louise Bourgeois, Francis Alys, Polly Apfelbaum and Robert Crumb.
Un vicio? La tela brillante! Añadirla a cualquier patrón es algo muy atractivo para mi. Durante mis visitas en Montana (mi estado natal) me encanta visitar las tiendas de segunda mano en busca de telas vintage que sean únicas y brillantes. Por lo general suelo llevar una maleta extra para poder llevarme a casa todo que pueda caber.
Un rincón para perderte? Mi estudio en Nueva York y cuando visito Montana, sus bosques. Agradezco los momentos de tranquilidad en la naturaleza cuando tengo tiempo para poder ir, ya que no siempre es facil... así que a veces me conformo con el East River en Greenpoint Brooklyn o algún parque de la calle.
Como te imaginas de aqui a 10 años? De aqui a 10 años espero seguir trabajando y poder viajar más por todo el mundo. Crear arte en Nueva York es fanástico, vibrante e intenso por ello espero seguir viviendo aquí por lo menos durante ese tiempo.
En una palabra como definirías Barcelona? Viva! Romántica! Enérgica! La he visitado durante sus manifestaciones, la final de la champions y durante la feria! Todo el mundo era tan agradable y dispuesto a enseñarme su parte favorita de la ciudad. No puedo esperar a poder volver!
Que te gustaría encontrar en una feria de arte?
Arte! Coleccionistas! Comunidad! Las ferias de arte son una mezcla de colaboración entre artistas, coleccionistas y obras de arte. Aprecio los trabajos no tradicionales que hacen que la feria sea única y vibrante.
Tres razones para amar Swab?
1.Reconocimiento por los trabajos más tradicionales y no tradicionales. Una buena mezcla de espacios de proyectos y con trabajos más tradicionales.
2. El apoyo que dió cada uno para hacer posible el proyecto. Tenía la sensación de una familia expresando su amor por el arte y por Barcelona.
3. El espacio! Wow! Hurra por el espacio grande!!
Un sueño? Volver a la feria y hacer una escultura más grande y más fantástica. Tal vez... hasta poder cubrir el edificio entero!!
How do you define yourself?
I define myself as an installation artist who works with fabric. I have been working with fabric for many years and I appreciate the unique patterns and history that comes with each piece that i find and use. Most of the fabric is recycled and used to create new and exciting sculptures.
As a child you wanted to be...?
I had no idea! But making art and doing things that werw creative were very much part of my younger life. In my home town, there were many artist that lived in our neighborhood, so it was common for people to be creative. My family was and still is very supportive of being an artist. Both of my parents are creative people and have influenced me in becoming the artist that I am today.
An idol? An idol is always a hard question! Some of my favorite artist are Louise Bourgeois, Francis Alys, Polly Apfelbaum and Robert Crumb.
A vice? Bright Fabric! Anything vintage with a coorful unique pattern is very sexy to me. When visiting Montana (my home-state) I love visitin the second-hand stores looking for unique vintage fabrics. I usually bring an extra suitcase to carry home as much as I can carry.
A place where you could get lost? The studio in New York, and when visiting Montana, the woods. I appreciate te quiet moments in natura when I have time to visit and get away. This is not always easy...so sometimes I settle for the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn or the park down the street.
How can you imagine you in the next 10 years? In 10 years I hope to continue making work and travelling more around the world. Making art in New York is a fantastic place, it´s vibrant and intensive. I hope to continue living here for at least that long.
How would you define the city of Barcelona in only one word? Lively! Romantic! Energetic! I visited during the demostrations, the soccer championships and the art fair! Everyone was so nice
What would you like to find in an art fair?
Art!Collectors! Community!...Art fairs are a collaborative mix between artist, collectors and art works. I appreciate the non-tradicional works that made the fair unique and vibrant.
Three reasons to love SWAB.
1.Appreciation for work that is traditional and non-traditional. A good mixture of project spaces and traditional works.
2.The support that EVERYONE gave to make the project happen. It had a feeling of a family expressing their love for art and Barcelona.
3.The SPACE!Wow!Hooray for big space!
One dream. To return to Barcelona during the fair to make a larger fantastic sculpture. Maybe....even cover the whole building!
